Mrs. Frye was promoted to Principal of Highland Elementary in July 2022. As the school principal, Mrs. Frye will ensure safety is top priority. She will also ensure all children reach their fullest potential every day! Prior to her promotion as Principal, Mrs. Frye was a proud Panther serving Highland Elementary as one of our Assistant Principals since December 2017. Mrs. Frye has also served our school district as a Classroom Teacher, Literacy Coach, Instructional Specialist, and Single School Culture Coordinator. Her experiences and literacy background has allowed her to instill the love of learning and reading to many students throughout the school district. In her free time, Mrs. Frye enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, and jogging.
Mrs. Martinez became one of the Assistant Principals at Highland Elementary in August 2022. She supports teachers, students, and families with a focus on behavior, academics, school climate, and Dual Language. As a bilingual herself, Mrs. Martinez is passionate about the Dual Language program and all the opportunities it provides our students. Prior to becoming an Assistant Principal at Highland Elementary School, Mrs. Martinez served as our school’s Single School Culture Coordinator, Dual Language Coach, SAC chair and 21st CCLC Site Coordinator. In these positions, she worked diligently to ensure equity in education, promote student achievement, and encourage lifelong learning. In her free time, Mrs. Martinez enjoys spending time with her husband and son. She also enjoys traveling and running.
Mrs. Hewitt was promoted to Assistant Principal of Highland Elementary in August 2022. She supports teachers, students, and families with a focus on behavior, academics, and school climate. Prior to becoming an Assistant Principal at Highland Elementary School, Mrs. Hewitt served as a classroom teacher, reading coach, and AVID Site Coordinator. In these positions, she worked diligently to ensure equity in education, promote student achievement, and encourage lifelong learning. In her free time, Mrs. Hewitt enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. She also enjoys fishing, kayaking, and the beach.
Ms. Kaplan began her position as Single School Culture Coordinator at Highland Elementary in July 2024. As the Single School Culture Coordinator, she is committed to fostering a unified, positive, and inclusive school environment where every student and staff member feels supported, valued, and empowered to succeed. She focuses on promoting consistency in building relationships, positive behavior supports, academic math focus, and school-wide procedures- ensuring all students have equitable opportunities to thrive and reach their full potential. Her background as a classroom teacher and math coach taught her that great learning happens when structure, curiosity, and support come together. She carries those same principles into her current role as SSCC. Mathematics has shaped the way she thinks, leads, and problem-solves. It reminds her that every challenge has a solution—and every student deserves the chance to find theirs.
